Chancel Guild – Altar Guild
This long established quiet group of volunteers has the task of preparing the altars for worship. The vases are polished, the flowers arranged and the brass is also polished. As well, purificator, corporals or lava towels are washed and pressed. Liturgical tasks are performed which include changing the church’s coloured hanging for the seasons, or special decorating for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Preparations in the church for weddings and funerals are also taken care of by the Chancel Guild. This is our group prayer:
O Lord Jesus Christ,
who didst accept the ministry of faithful women during they earthly life;
We pray thee to accept and bless the work
which this Chancel Guild undertakes
in the care of thy Sanctuary.
Grant us a spirit of reverence for thy house and worship
thy word and sacraments, and preserve in purity and holiness
our own souls and bodies as living temples of thy presence,
to whom with the father and the Holy Ghost
we give praise and honour, now and forever.
